For those who have been following my blog posts (if there are any... :P), it won't be news that my 50mm 1.8 lens was recently found to be completely stuck, not wanting to focus at all, and it seemed like I had to write it off. But then someone in the forum thread on here suggested taking the lens...
IPhone ordered: check. Accessories ordered: check. List of essential apps made: check. Read up on photography with the iPhone: check. iPhone delivered: [pending]... :( Oh well. Back to the book for now...
The other day I wrote that my 50mm 1.8 Mk I lens had got stuck: both auto focus and manual focus didn't work anymore. Well, there's good news to report! I found someone who is handy with lenses (takes them apart, converts his own lenses for macro use, etc. - quite a handy chap, apparently), and I...
This is just to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! Since we're not having a white Christmas this time, here's what it looked like last year:
It's been one of those years in which things had to be replaced. Do you know how that works? One thing after another will die on you, be lost forever, or become so outdated that you'll have to replace it. The car went to my ex, my satnav gave up the ghost, my Olympus pocket digicam fell and brok...
A kind relative gave me an old analogue SLR, a Canon EOS Rebel 2000. I don't know if I'll be using much film, I like the economic advantage of having a DSLR too much, but maybe I can think of nice, nostalgic techniques to try out (any suggestions welcome, by the way). And ... I have plans wit...
A relative gave me an old analogue Canon EOS SLR. I took it out of the bag and put it on my dining room table, and I noticed a rather nice reflection of the strap on the table surface.
Last year I bought a miniature Christmas tree and everything that goes with it: tiny lights, tiny ornaments. It was small, but nice. (I live on only 27 square metres, so have to economise with space.) This year I was too late when I went for a miniature tree, they were all sold out. So I got myse...
Last night my daughter had a stall at a Christmas fair, and I thought I'd go and have a look, and decided to take my camera. Since I don't like the harshness of flash light very much, I thought it would be a good idea to take my fastest lens, a 50mm 1.8 Mk I. I don't use it very often, but I do ...
Some photo titles are very popular on ephotozine. "Sunset" is an obvious one, of course. "Untitled" an unfortunate but understandable one. (And I thought "Untiled" was a funny typo. The photo was indeed untiled. And untitled...) Variations of "Are you/ewe looking a...
Part of my working life is spent sitting at a computer, typing. And another part is spent talking into a microphone - in an interpreters' booth (or if circumstances are less ideal, sitting or standing among members of an audience). I recently realised that I didn't have any pictures of myself wor...
I took another walk in the woods today - there was more light than last time, and I thought taking both my camera and my dog out might be a good combination. :-) And indeed, the light through the trees and on the autumn leaves was great, there were plenty mushrooms around, lots of things to shoot...
Ashley and I went for a stroll in the woods, as we often do when I can make my lunch hour long enough - she's not so quick anymore, she's behaving more and more like an elderly dog, and at ten years old I suppose that's not surprising. Having (had?) cancer, having arthrosis, etc., doesn't help eithe...
A comment someone made on one of the photos in my portfolio that isn't exactly the most striking one of all, and my reply to his comment, reminded me of a sketch by Max Boyce, whose humour I learned to appreciate when I was living in Wales. The title of his sketch was a bit longer than the title of ...
So, as I said before, I've finally transferred images from my phone to my pc and had a look if there was anything usable among them. Well, not much, the quality is generally very low. Lots of noise, only reasonably sharp when the light is good, and lacking in detail when looking in the distance. ...
