Afternoon all. Just spent an hour or so with my new discovery - a heron's nest with 2 chicks, albeit big chicks. There used to be a heronry down in the woods just down the road from me. A good few months ago, the woods were severely chopped down. They did leave a few trees where the heronry used to be, but I did not think the herons would use it. At least 2 pairs have returned to breed, as I did see some other young in the trees behind these 2. This was the only nest I could get any decent view of. Initially the young did see me and laid low in the nest, however after about 15 minutes, they paid me no attention and began to preen and exercise their wings. Of all the shots, this is my favourite. Thanks for C&Cs on yesterday's upload.

A very informative write up Moira.
I thought a heronry was a fish farm where you went to poach the herring !!
Good shot.
Mick.

This is a new one for me: never seen herons up in a tree, never mind nestlings.
Great capture, Moira.
Ronnie.
