This is one of just a few wild orchids we found in Slovenia, this one was near the edge of one of the beautiful lakes. I think it is a Pyramid but hopefully someone will correct me if I am wrong.

I was very lucky with the light, it was overcast, but had the normal ponder over the best setting to produce a reasonable background.

As always comments and advice very welcome.

The background works fine, Sandra. The head doesn't look dense enough to be a pyramid orchid, though. Carol

Think you've nailed the background here, Sandra.

Looks like the Heath Spotted Orchid, Sandra. The "spotted" part is the leaves, which eases ID, but you have none showing. See here.

Very good shots, Sandra, and I agree with pamelajean - I'm sure it is the Heath Spotted Orchid - Dactylorhiza Maculata. It is certainly not the Pyramidal Orchid.

Gorgeous thing!! Never seen these before. They stand out so well against that background in V2.

I just looked at Pamela's link and I reckon she and Tony are right about the ID.

Just spotted (no pun intended) another shot here - the Featured E2 right now.
