Thanks all.

Strange that after nearly 3 months off I will have to get up at a "normal' time to officially work. Obviously I have been keeping busy and doing some work in that time but will still be a bit of a shock to the system Grin

More of a shock will be getting up at "silly o'clock" on Wednesday to drive to the client site!

Well positioned bird in frame, plus beautiful control of light / processing resulting in rich saturated colours and a photo with bags of impact.

Great snap!!

Congrats on the EC.
Cannot tell the sex at this age, some with a bit of red under beak turn out to be male,
Queenie's beak was totally black until she was over six months old, she is of course female.
Arthur is 18 months old and still has a little red on his lower mandible.
They were one of the two couples that paired up last spring, and dug a nest together.
I hope you do not mind me pointing this out.
Best for 2012 Alan

Thanks Pete for the EC, tenners will be in the usual spot Wink

Alan, no problem. I was told some time ago that the signs for a juvenile were the colour of the feet and the white tip to the end of the beak. As for it being male or female having never consciously seen a definite female juvenile I am more than happy to be "corrected". I only have scarce access to see these fantastic birds and therefore happy to defer to an expert for an identification. So in future I'll just put juvenile to be on the safe side Grin
