This is crackin stuff!
Fantastic capture and admire the way it has been processed with selective DOF that engulfs the bird giving a sense of seclusion and space

Thanks all.

You can always improve on a shot Angi. For this one I think next time I would use f/5 rather than f/4, but it's minor. I'd also remember to take my angle finder Wink

Not sure what the statement about processed with DOF is trying to say, but for clarity all done in camera with a wide open lens and heather too close to the lens for it to focus throws the foreground out.

Thanks Pete.

As anyone that knows me will realise it won't stop me trying to get this style of shot even better this weekend. Maybe a merlin, maybe the hobby, or hopefully the SEO with eyes to bring the shot to life.

Ah, I see, I suppose I'm the same with my frog images Wink, there is always something I feel I can do better.
I'm not sure that F5 would really make much difference as there is such good clarity on the bird, to me anyway, would it not bring out more detail in the plants close to the bird though, possibly distracting from it slightly? I look forward to seeing the images you get this week. Shame you are not going to the Barn owl centre next week.

Possibly it would Angi, but I think the difference is likely to be very small and not enough to bring anything more than just a fraction more of the bird in to focus. I just need to remember to experiment more when doing these. There is a very fine line between what works and what doesn't in these. I would like to get a good one with the SEO though, if he'll sit up and not slump over like the last time we tried Smile

Thanks all.

No more uploads this week, have too much to do. Presentations to write for the weekend on falconry photography, article for Nik for photo month, stuff for my website, etc., etc.

So it's been a bit of a post and run week, apologies.

Fantastic image. Really creative pov, captured it very well - so isolated from its environment yet you still get a sense of moorland type/heather habitat. Would like to try this myself.
