Well after yesterday's superb session down on the Somerset Levels I thought I'd share a few more images with you of the days captures.

We found several different Hairy Dragonflies which are the first Hawkers of the summer to find on the wing. This first image is of a newly emerged specimen which hasn't quite dried his wings out as yet. V2 & 3 are of other specimens found. V4, 5 & 6 are of the wonderful in flight Hobby's which were snaffling the Dragons up as soon as took to the air! V4 looks like it has jessie's attached to the feet, but I can assure you it is in fact the Hairy Dragonflies and Damselflies which they catch on the wing.
The Hobby's themselves look very similar to Peregrine Falcons, but are in fact slightly smaller......They're almost as fast and just as incredibly difficult to capture in flight, these images probably being the best of a very bad bunch.
Thanks for looking and commenting, I'm hoping to catch up with everyone else's work over the next few days, but at the moment I'm incredibly busy with life and all it throws at us!

The three insect macros are the ones in this set that stand out for me, Ade: your macro photography is always a delight to view, and the detail captured here is excellent, with V 3, that closer inspection, quite remarkable.
Ronnie.

An awesome set of natural history images Ade, the first three are mightily impressive and could all be uploaded in their own right. The detail and clarity is astounding and the colours are glorious. It looks like you had a very productive day spent with Sue down on the levels. It's very wet in the countryside close to home and is beginning to resemble the levels more each day, it will be like home from home when you do eventually get up here to photograph the butterflies and moths!Wink The weather has reverted to type and is pants again, so no doubt the only superb session you'll be having in the foreseeable future will be in the Barley Mow and Apple Tree in Bedminster when copious amounts of local scrumpy will be downed!TongueGrinWink

Terrific shots of both the bird and the dragon Ade. I enjoyed the previous shot of the dragon but I must say that I think V1 here is even better.Stunning clarity and perfect pose.

No Jenn, this was taken using my ever old faithful Tamron 90mm SP Di Macro mounted on a tripod using mirror lock up. Had it about 8 years now and it's still as sharp as the day I bought it!.........Very under-rated piece of kit, which if used correctly is as sharp as anything on the market.

The Bigma was used for the Hobby's......

Thanks for yours and everybody else's kind comment and special thanks to Annette and SaltireBlue's awards......

A really excellent set here.

Ken

Brilliant macros, brilliant birds, I saw my first at Wicken Fen a last week. There was a dozen of them taking the mayflies as they were emerging of the Lode. Too early for many Dragon flies!
