I must thank Jenn for letting me know what this was. I thought it was a butterfly. That's how much I know about butterflies and moths. I was just so surprised by how big it was and how pretty. This red rose is a giant rose so doesn't really give a good idea of how big this moth is.

Imagine that thing flying around your kitchen light-bulb!

An easy way to tell a moth from a butterfly is that a moth rests with its wings spread open, and a butterfly with them closed.
