Today I was at my desk working when I happened to look out the patio door and say my neighbour's cat running towards me with a starling in his mouth. I noticed that lots of starlings were clinging to the washing line pole and flying all over the place. I went out side to see lots of them sitting on top of the television aerial on the roof all looking in exactly the same direction as the squeals I could hear coming from a neighbouring garden and, presumably, the injured starling. The panic of the other birds was palpable. I grabbed my camera to take some shots as they were flying all around - at about the same time two seagulls landed on the garage roof and almost immediately took off. The atmosphere was electric for a few moments -the air just seemed full of terror. I was bit upset if truth be known - though I do appreciate it is the way of things.

Great write up Sue. You should finish off with.... "this is Kate Adie reporting from the back garden...."
just kidding, it's very well written. The text explains the image very well, I think you've acheived the feel you were looking for. Great job!

... plus, I learned how to spell 'pandemonium'
... though I notice I spelt achieved wrong ![]()

You cheeky fella you - you trying to say I talk too much!!!?? I have been home alone working all day with no-one to talk to so I had to make up for it by giving EPz's the verbals! Now, would you like me to give you a lesson on the i before e rule?? But then again, there are two spelling (well typing actually) errors in my narrative so we will call it quits eh.
Thanks for the comment - you did make me smile - this is Sue Hadnett from the dining room, at my desk, beside the patio door with a cuppa and a choccy biscuit![]()
superbly captured with good spread of wings in each of the upper 4 birds even making great pattern work

I wouldn't dream of it!!
Your reporting is first class!... moving and descriptive (checked spelling first).
Sounds like a scene from the horror film ,The Birds,Sue !!
I can't recall Tippi Hedren having a Nikon in her hand and taking some pics though !!
I took a girlfriend to the pictures to see that film.I liked taking them to horror films as they were all over me like a rash at the scary bits.
It did not work out on this occasion. It turned out she had the hots for Rod Taylor and spend the entire time swooning and gushing over him when he came on screen.Dunno what he had that I have not got ? That was the last I saw of her and it was her loss really. She got no fish supper and her bus fares home that night !!
Mick.
Sue, that is fabulous! You really caught the feeling, esp. by that big white swipe of the seagull. It is disturbing that the other birds were so upset. I once was feeding some swallows at a feeder and a large white heron came by and tried to eat a swallow! The poor thing was screeching and I tried to save it but the heron flew off with it. Nature can be grim. I have added your picture to my favorites to study - I'm not sure how you did this but I am going to try to figure it out!

Cracking image Sue and a really apt title, reminds of Hitchcock's 'The Birds'. Have a great day, don't work to hard ![]()

Beautifully put together, to portray the scene in the garden, including the electricity in the background.
