is this rarely the very rare adonis blue? any experts out there please respond. i found it at venus pools in shropshire and it is not supposed to occur here!!!!!

You can tell an adonis blue apart from a common blue by the black marks in the white border to the wings. If these go right to the edge of the wings (as here), it is an adonis. Having said that, it is a much darker blue than is normal for an adonis, which is usually a bright electric blue. It is also a long way to the north of any recent adonis records that I am aware of. I would suggest comparing it with images on the butterfly conservation website, www.butterfly-conservation.org
