is this rarely the very rare adonis blue? any experts out there please respond. i found it at venus pools in shropshire and it is not supposed to occur here!!!!!
I can't help you with the identification I'm afraid but it is a stunning creature. Great capture.
Don't know what it is but it's beautiful. Lovely image. dorothy
Great detail, lovely shot Stace
You can tell an adonis blue apart from a common blue by the black marks in the white border to the wings. If these go right to the edge of the wings (as here), it is an adonis. Having said that, it is a much darker blue than is normal for an adonis, which is usually a bright electric blue. It is also a long way to the north of any recent adonis records that I am aware of. I would suggest comparing it with images on the butterfly conservation website, www.butterfly-conservation.org
What a beautiful image, such lovely color.
Certainly appears to be an Adonis Blue Danny. Could an indication of climate/ habitat change. Normally found here in the South, where it is warmer. Full on image. Ron.
