About Me
I am an ex-air force type, in my fifties, who has in recent years been contracting in the IT industry in Project Office Support Roles. I am currently unemployed having been made redundant late in 2011.
I now live in Oxfordshire close to where I was last based with the RAF at Brize Norton, and have been an amateur photographer since the early 1970s, although I have been using cameras since I was first given a Kodak Brownie when I was 8 years old. While I was in the RAF I took advantage of the Camera Clubs that most bases have, and this is where I learnt the basics of photography. Most of these clubs have a fully equipped darkroom and some sort of studio facilities which in some ways put me at an advantage over the average hobby photographer who would be constrained by a lack of space or money to buy the more expensive bits of kit that we all want for this fascinating hobby.
I am now a dedicated digital photographer although I still have a roll film SLR and 35mm SLR lying in wait in the wings, and a basic but functioning darkroom. Sadly the darkroom doesnt get any use these days as I find it much more convenient to use Photoshop! I have even splashed out on some Elinchrom lights and a background system, but alas my compact and bijou residence is too small for me to use as a temporary studio, but I have tried!
I wont claim to be a widely published photographer, but I do get the odd imaged used in my local news paper and when I was in the RAF I occasionally had photos used to illustrate articles in the Station Magazines at the places where I was based. I have work exhibited at the Welsh Photographic Federation exhibitions when I lived in that part of the world, and also in Oxford and Bonn when I was involved with the Oxford Photographic Society. In more recent times I have been involved in local photographic projects, including a Millennium Project, and exhibitions.
