Close shave

Close shaveAn unusual set of images, but an idea that is different and it does have a certain compelling nature to it. I musst admit that when I first viewed the set I was a bit puzzled by it, but as I cycled through the images everthing became clear.

I think the viewpoint is not the best for the series, and would benefit from being at an angle from the side of the subject. Lighting is a bit flat and better modelling could be achieved if dramatic side or backlighting were employed.

The idea and image quality are both good, but I think a few more variations might be worth while.

Susannah

SusannahThis is a good starting point, and you have managed to get quite a good exposure in what is high contrast lighting, bright but overcast would have given you much better and friendlier lighting.

In this situation I would have shot in open shade to reduce the contrast between the skin highlights and the shadow, your models eyes are in danger of disappearing into deep shadow. If you had no choice but to use this position and lighting, the image might have benefited from the use of a reflector or fill in flash, just to lift your models eyes from the shadows.
