I think it could have been crop to make the pelicans biger in the frame.

This is stunning as it is. Crop too close and it is just a picture of pelicans. Like this it is about vastness, emptiness, etc. I can almost hear the silence!

Lovely capture, this image does give a sense of there being nothing else in the world other than these three pelicans, is I was to crop it I don't think it would be to make them bigger in the from but maybe more a panoramic view, but cropping apart from perspective is really a personal thing.
