Just happened on this Sparrrowhawk along the River Stort, Bishop's Stortford; so intent on the prey it was taking hardly any notice of me. Pure luck shot, I guess.

Well caught. I had a similar experience with a peregrine and a pigeon about 10 years ago near Bempton cliffs. I managed a shot too, the bird would surely have noticed, but it wouldn't want to give up it's prey easily. It makes you appreciate the birds more when you witness something like that.
