This past weekend I have been in Krakow and took the hour long drive out to the Museum at Auschwitz-Berkenau. I managed to steal this picture in a rare moment when there were no tourists entering the camp on their guided tours.

Thanks for looking.

Esther looks like you had a very interesting trip, I have just returned from Berlin and visited many themed exhibitions from this... shall we call it an appalling atrocity. like the composure of your shot.

I can't believe that this received so many clicks in so little time. Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I'll try it in mono (I have my photoshop night class tonight so will be able to seek professional help!) and post it again if the results look good. Thanks again, Esther

great shot, love the composition, the way there is so much space in the centre of the picture. It is like an open road.

Hi Esther,

It appears that you have been to many of the places I have; Auschwitz, Birkenhau, Prague, Liverpool, Crosby!

I visited Auschwitz and Birkenhau in August 2000 on a tour of Eastern Europe. I found it a disturbingly pleasant place to visit, sun shining, mature trees.. then the heavens opened so we all had to run for cover.

I prefer the black and white image, as it dates it back to the war. Well captured
