Discovered whilst walking along the beach at Leysdown-on-Sea. Unfortunately the tide was out as I have a pretty good idea that when partially submerged this will make a good LE subject. Anyway I was there with the camera gear so decided to take a few test shots (you will have to imagine the tides is in) Incidentally the towers on the horizon top left are the Maunsell Forts which defended the mouth of the Thames during WW2.

This is rather better than a 'test shot,' Derek. It works very well... a great sky, the cloud movement guiding the eye to the towers... the shapes in the wet sand...delectable textures... loads to look at!
I hope you don't mind if I make just a couple of suggestions: I think it gains considerably from a bit of a brightness lift, and also I think it looks a lot better presented against a lighter background, a mid grey perhaps, which would go well with the blue tone.

Regards

Alan

Thank you for your thoughts Alan. I did 3 versions of this and will upload the brighter version for interest.
You are probably right about the background. Something I dont pay enough attention to.

What a wonderful shot this is, Derek. The foreground features may not immediately strike the untrained eye as being photogenic features, but my goodness they are striking in this beautifully balanced and toned image. Wish I had two User Awards to give each week.

The increased brightness definitely works, brings it to life more.
I admit I have a bit of a thing about backgrounds/presentation... seems to me it's an integral part of visual imagery, and can sometimes have quite a transforming effect when treated sympathetically.

Image two seems to work better for me Derek, as I feel the extra contrast in image one masks some of that wonderful detail especially in the foreground.

v1 for me too, Derek. Meaner, moodier and more heavyweight in appearance which matches the solid metal structure. The towers are so well placed at the focus of the cloud movement as well.
