This was, as most of my photos are, taken at the LWT. I was walking through the grass when suddenly a dragonfly rose out of the grass from next to my foot. I followed where it flew and it eventually landed about 20m away in the grass.
Keeping my eyes fixed on this spot, I walked carefully over towards where I thought it had landed. Sure enough, there it was, perched low down on a grass stalk. I put my macro lens on and inched the camera closer and closer until I was close enough.
On asking one of the very knowledgeable workers at the site later, he told me that it was a teneral black-tailed skimmer, meaning that it was only a few days since it had emerged from the water and this, and the fact that it was rather cold and windy, was why it was down in the grass.
I took this last weekend (5-6 June) and on Sunday I went to the same spot, but there were none to be seen so must have flown off.....
Anyway, I hope you like it!
