Village Shock !
266 (291)Last night an elderly man from out village who is a bit of a gentle recluse living with his son and dog was , for absolutely no reason, battered about the head with a cricket bat by a youth from a nearby town. He was battered so hard and with such violence no one could get near to help or give assistance.
This happened outside our village Spar shop at about 5pm when there were children buying sweets and families completing their shopping. My daughter who had just given birth to her second baby twelve hours previously lives only a few yards away.
We moved here 21 years ago in the hope that a Cornish village would be a safe and quiet place to bring up our children. I am beginning to feel that there is nowhere in this country where that can be said to be true. It really makes me fear for my grandchildren who are growing up here and for all other children growing up in this 21st century .
We have had policemen all over the village this morning , a sight I haven't seen since we have lived here. I am not quiute sure why I have written this blog tonight but I just feel so shocked and upset. The flowers and words around the lampost where he fell just says it all .

Thats an awful, awful thing to happen, I do wonder if we'd have more policeman actually on the streets.. and in our communities rather than waiting until something happened would not be more proactive rather than reactive.
It is sad, but this is the reality nowadays Diana, here as well. Last week two young men were condemned for an almost similar crime, and when they were taken out of the courtroom, they showed the middle finger to the people in the audience. So much about regretting their action.
Sad, sad, sad...

What a dreadful shock Di.
I agree its quite a thought considering the world that our grandchildren will have to face.

My heart goes out to him and his family .. and to your village as well...
It is amazing to me how this world has become... it is like reading the Bible and looking out the window and watching it unfold..
Where I live we only have 4 policemen in our town... and never at the same time... except for the weekend and then there are 2 day /2 night... and there are so many unsolved crimes that it is unreal.. they just write them off I am afraid.. Even our State Police are low on men/women..
