Lovely lighting again Hugh! An excellent and very appealing image.
There is a slightly superior, or condescending look, about the statue...did you ask permission to take its portrait first?

Super shot ****, very sharp and such vibrant colours!
You could try lighting the foreground and not letting any light fall on the back. Another way would be to utilise "rim lighting" (or even back-lighting) which should ensure a black background. Mind you, I think the soft dark grey is very sympathetic to the flower head and may-be, a jet black might have been too heavy! Just a thought.
