...when I was taking this image it struck me that it would make a good monochrome conversion, so here it is.
A couple of weeks ago on Rannoch Moor. the day of the frost.

Hi Dougie...yes this works well in mono too. I like the way the clouds and reflected cloud take you to the tree.

You were right again o wise man. It did make a good mono.

Wonderful image, suits black and white, and the square crop.

Big skies are great when they hold this much detail and interest.
For me, this image ticks a lot of boxes.
Only one thing wrong with it..................

............... I didn't take it !!!

Really nice work Dougie.

This works well as mono, Dougie; the tree became a symbol for that place which I had the pleasure (maybe honour, I would say Smile ) to photograph begining of this month.
Well done and presented it! A pleasure to nav. through your PF.

I had a similar thought on one of mine - except my thought happened after the shot was taken! (something to do with delayed brain activity on my part I think)

Just as wonderful in black & white as in colour; maybe even more so. I reckon the clouds play a greater role.

Photos like this remind me why I should go and visit Scotland.
Like how the foreground ground is dark and then the background fades out to a soft grey.

This is fabulous, Dougie. The B&W treatment accentuates that exceptional cloud formation and helps to highlight that lonely but resolute tree. The tree itself and its reflection pin the whole composition together. A masterful image.

Just been comparing the two images and still can't decide which is best. It certainly makes a great mono.
I think I will have to go with both excellent in their own right and wouldn't want to separate them.

Amazing b&w, great compo, light [well equalized in foreground and background as well], dof & subtle contrast too! The in-diagonal clouds made the difference, mate...
