An image from a forthcoming EPZ feature on summer portraits where there is tricky lighting. The sun is behind the subject so with the exposure for the subject, the background is very light and airy. For this shot I had the subject go through a few different poses while i snapped away - so i could get something that wasn't static and looked stagey.

Good exposure on the model in this tricky situation. I wonder if it would be better taken from a slightly higher angle so her head is not against the sky, but that's probably the kind of situation you are trying to demonstrate.

Yes indeed Roger, there are some shots where they show framing the image to keep the sky out of the shot. For this one, it was shot so it was very bright in the background. From the same position, there's one with flash, which balances the background and foreground exposures so that the sky is blue.

Love the pose, hate the sky,

nicely framed, like the movement in the beads and the exposure is good, the only crit is its a shame her bra strap is showing but if this purely to show exposure techniques then that wouldn't be a problem. Sue

Yeah-must have been tricky.Like the soft background colours and well defined grass at foreground.

Hi Sue,

Bra straps are in these days, but this is really down to personal preference. Some people like to see them, some don't and it depends on the outfit as well. With a top like that, solid straps would have been distracting, whereas the transparent ones, i feel, look more natural and go with the mood of the picture.

Nice shot Duncan!
Colours are fantastic and the model look great too! Love the use of DOF and particually like the fact the beads have movement - as she is strolling through the fields. I have tried my hand at summer fashion for the 1st time....would be interested in your feedback if you get a min!

Regards

Matthew

lovely texture in the grass, great colours
