I've just uploaded this image to demonstrate the use of Hugin - the free panorama creation software.

This was taken close to the ship using a Finepix camera at its widest setting. The 7 photos overlap horizontally and vertically. When combined, they made a TIF of 51Mb.

This shot has been crudely resized in PSP and converted to a jpg.

The bunting on the ship was obviously moving, and has created some odd effects. The rigging lines can be seen to miss slightly in a couple of places, but are potentially fixable by cloning. If I'd used more than 30 Control Points in the original auto stitch parameters, or by manually adding some after this stitching run, I'd probably have had even better results.

This was entirely hand held in shooting, so I'm amazed it turned out as well as it did.

A super image! It reminds me of the youngster who wrote on a school essay question that it was Sir Frances Drake who first circumcised the world with a giant clipper! You gotta love tall ships and kids...
