This male Common blue Polyommatus icarus, was taken early morning at Twywell

My last session with the butterflies of 2012 & possibly the last image I took tooSmile
I only came across two males and a female that particular morningSad
Just shows how badly the Common blues suffered last year.

Won't know how poor they fared, until middle/late of May

Adrian

I hope I won't have to wait until May to spot these beauties, Adrian Smile. You've finished the 2012 series with sheer perfection. Still blowing a hooligan here, having to rely on critters that have been blown into the empty pool for new images. Carol

How you manage to capture shot after shot with them posing in a perfect orientation is beyond me.
Another classic beauty, Adrian.

Don't get any better! We had almost no butterflies at all last year, even the most common varieties were in very few numbers.

A flawless close up of this tiny beauty Adie, there were very few of them in Gloucestershire too compared with previous years. The most I ever saw was at Sand Bay and Sand Point near Weston-Super-Mare.

It is early morning Ronnie, after a cool night - they are still sluggish, awaiting the sun to warm them upSmile

Late summer, early mornings Annette - a previous warm day and a cool night = heavy dewSmile

Excellent capture of this attractive butterfly, last year was very poor for insects due to the appalling weather.
