Came across this yesterday, reckon it's a Swaledale Skull. It's complete apart from the bottom jaw. Had a little life left in it as it managed to jump into the van and is currently residing in my shedWink (Mrs H is unimpressed!).

All C&Cs welcome

Thanks for looking

Very, very good. I like the way you got down low and looked it in the eye-socket. It occupies the frame.
Long time since I had a decent skull as a prop, farmers seem to have got more conscientious about clearing dead animals. Which is probably as well...

An excellent mono study, Den. I can't really imagine it in colour! The conversion is very good indeed.
Not easy to improve on the image in discovery mode, i.e. when you were presumably lying on your front squinting through the viewfinder. I like the dof but think in the circumstances f8 would have added some vital textural detail on the horn without including significantly more background. Since the object is now in your possession you can work on it at your leisure: it would make a great centrepiece for a memento mori.
Regards
Bill

Love your narrative. Great find, and I suspect it had a little help to jump into your vanWink.
Now I am seeing a dark and moody still life with a lit candle, cobwebs, an old book, a lot of dust......and "Wooly's" skull!
