Hackberry Butterfly
Asterocampa celtis
About 2 inches as pictured
This is a difficult butterfly to capture for an odd reason. Their favorite perching spots are on rocks, the ground, the side of a building--or On the PHOTOGRAPHER----probing for minerals and such--- this tickles!
V1--he nicely opened up on a red rock. V2-- LOL the screen door--a different pose
Sending hearty thank yous to Ava (avacreates) and Frank (bagman) for their User Awards for the fritillary!
and yes--- Three's a charm-- I WILL find something different for tomorrow!

v2 for me ..it has an expression ..bless ...like " help me" ![]()
fabulous well done
V1 is attractive with the clear and different BG. V2 is so detailed one could call it personal. Both excellent. TG
A somewhat brilliant close-up photograph Jenn , stunning colours, crisp detail, and gorgeous light, which all go together to enhance the beauty of this rather handsome looking 'Hackberry Butterfly' so very well. A real please to see and admire.
Regards Nathan
Two outstanding images Jenn, fantastic detail and clarity, wonderful colours too ![]()
Hugh
A beauty , never seen this one before. V1 for me... The brown background is perfect.
Very good captures like them both. Stunning detail good colour, job well done.
John
Two excellent complementary images, Jenn. Great detail in v2 but the background and composition on v2 just makes that the winner.
Dave
V2's background is unusual and rather effective. But V1's background is rust-coloured.
Moira
2 cracking shots Jenn, both beautifully detailed, was the image size's intentional ?
Geoff.
Jenn, I actually consider this to be "something different."
I suspect you meant something other than butterflies but I can't remember the time that I've seen one posted on something other than a flower.
This image is quite interesting for the color combination of the rock and insect.
Nicely seen.

My favourite is V2, Jenn, love the way you have taken that.
Two real belters Jennn, you've really nailed these. As Meatloaf would say "you've taken the words right out of my mouth"
Quote: Stunning Jenn, looks very much like our Wall Browns over this side of the pond!
Ade
The Big O has said already what I was going to say the wall browns or walls as they are known can be extremely frustrating to photograph and a long lens is often handy. They are quite aptly named as they do drive you up the wall! lol
