This photograph was taken at the local marina in Wick and I have tried to represent the peace and tranquillity of the scene while keeping the detail to a minimum.

I like the way you have focused on one boat and the reflection from its mast and rigging, Eric.
It looks like the light was good, and mono is a good choice, giving you strong blacks and whites.
Your detail is good throughout, and I particularly like the rippled effect on the reflection. In fact, for me, it's the reflection that is the main element of the image. With that in mind, I would suggest cropping the top and eliminating the other boat at the top, as well as the background water.
Compositionally, I'd prefer to see space on the right, but that may not have been possible due to other boats being in the way.
Your vertical format works perfectly here. If shooting a horizontal would include distracting elements on either side that you can't get close enough to crop out, shooting a vertical is a good option.
I have done a modification with a simple crop to the top, to see what you think.
Pamela.

I rather like this. Nice composition in general. Might just crop a little off the top, but nicely seen and good quality.
