This full moon was photographed on the 31st August 2012 and as it was the second full moon in the month it is known as a Blue Moon. The next time that there will be a Blue Moon will be the 31st July 2015 following the first full moon in that month on the 2nd July 2015. I suppose this phenomenon gives rise to the saying "Once in a Blue Moon"
