Andy - Lovely shot with good composition. Its great how your eye is drawn to the red ring and then follows the pier to the end where there is a handy little lighthouse(?) to take you up into the yellow sky and back into the picture, brilliant. One minor point (and to be honest it could just be me) I would just check that the horizon is level in the background. It seems to slope down to the right slightly on my screen. Lovely shot nonetheless and one I would put on my wall if it were mine. Wayne
Hi Amanda, now i don't profess to any kind of expert but a few starters for ten could be... try to get a cathclight in each eye when doing portrait work it gives the character a bit of life and lifts them off the page. Try to put the background further back from the subject enabling you to create a greater depth of field and so making unavoidable creases less obvious and a very minor point but a light source shining from one side of the subject does create a hefty shadow across the face, in the case of your son going away from his nose. Reflectors or a position in front the window can sometimes remove this with little or no expense... Like the pose though and the tones of the shot are good.
