This picture was taken this morning when two local regiments were awarded the Freedom of Birkenhead following a stint in Afghanistan, some soldiers from the regiment are still out there but are due to return soon.

Three of the men were awarded medals and this shows one such presentation. (I always thought medals were 'pinned on' but as you can see here, they were presented in boxes)

The regiments were led through the town, to Hamilton Square by a military band dressed in red and were fortunate that the rain only started just as they were about to enter the old town hall for refreshments.

The freedom of the town was presented to both regiments by the Mayor, Councillor Moira McLaughlin.

Hello Frank,

This may be something the soldiers may want a copy of ?. I think nowdays a lot of "Tour of Duty" medals are presented in boxes, it's a shame but a sign of the times that you see so many up for sale.

Did you get any of the Military Band ?

Take care
Martin

Its a nice sharp shot Frank. Assume f/14 was to try to get the band also?

I would clone out that roundabout blue sign, - its jumps out at me. I suppose pinning medals took too lonk, - and theres that risk of stabbing the recipient. The box Im sure is a fancy presentation case where the medal look nice on display when not being worn.

I notice the obvious difference between the senior rank and the grunts as far as hair grooming id concerned, - quite different!

Nikons new camera is a D4, 16.2 megapixel full frame, 10 frames per second with improved video capabilities to bring it in line with what Canon has.

regards

Willie

If the officer who presented the medals see's this he will cringe. He has his belt on upside down. Obviously no bat man nowadays to dress them ???

Even with the little critique details this is a brilliant shot - bless them all as they are all deserving the highest recognition !!!
