I have been blown away by some of the bird images I have seen here since my return. It is a subject matter that I only just discovered in Africa, mainly due to the rich variety and colour that I saw out there.
I thought that as a novice in this area I would therefore upload one of mine to get some advice and guidance from the many experts out there.
This one is a Knysna Turaco (formerly lourie) captured during a walk in Wilderness National Park. I would have loved to have caught one in flight with its striking red underfeathers, but alas not to be!

Great shot of one of the many beautiful birds in Africa - I like the "make-up" in these species - You've captured fine detail lovely bright eye and great colour, great shot - don't know what your apperture was set on but for a bird this size you need at least 7.1 - 9 - cheers Ina
Thank you for all your comments.
Thank you Ina especially. I have been shooting this sort of image with probably too large apperture in order to isolate background and get faster speed, only to find parts of the subject out of focus.
Just the kind of advice I was hoping for.
