This are about the ugliest birds I know and I think they're great. Taken before Christmas thoughts were in our heads and uploaded now that it's all over. Digitally manipulated too as the nasty background magiced away in PS. See what you think.

Denise, this one was well and truly alive (and hopefully still is!). They tend to have the red colouring on their 'faces'. Glad you love it. Gary

I think this is a good shot which would be better if you could see one of the bird's eyes.
Saying that, it's still well done. The turkey really stands out against the black background.

I like the way you've blended the dark feathers into your black BG. I agree with Brewster it would be better if there was an eye on show. But a good idea, well executed.

Not one I'd be putting on my wall though!

Hi Dan. Thanks for the click/comments. I doubt I'd be hanging something as unpleasant either. I was thinking that our fellow EPZers might well have loved the shot if it was of a 'pretty' subject. I'm inclined to agree about the eye detail, but trying to find one amongst all that "stuff" is tricky.

All in all, the image atchieved what I wanted so I'm pretty chuffed. Due the the subject it won't win me any awards! It is currently one of the favourites in my portfolio - a step away form my 'IKEA Prints'.

Great detail and like the sheen on the feathers, goes well with chestnut stuffing.

Sorry, I can't face the large version!!!
Great texture in the ugliness.
My suggestion for the new category is SCARY.It would be like the adult section and come with a warning to those of a nervous disposition.

I can't say I 'like' it, but I can appreciate it. I like the manipulation and coloring, and there is great contrast and texture. Overall, a great effort, though I do agree it would have more personality if the eyes were captured in a side on head shot.

You did a great job with this one. It should have had many more votes. But it's tough to compete with Max, LOL - especially with a turkey!

The detail in the large version is amazing, but he is pretty ugly,
