The postman calls, in his now quite customary white van. Sadly the Post Office seems now to prefer to rent vans from outside sources than maintain its own fleet. Accountancy and economics are a strange and mysterious dark arts these days. I think that has worked in my favour here though as the red van would have made this a quite different picture.

He has a right to look concerned Phil, last time I took his picture he ended up emerging from a toilet bowl. That was many years ago and I hope since then I've learnt to use my manipulative super powers, if not more wisely, at least with a little more subtlety. :0)

Great natural framing for this excellent portrait.
In Holland the postal services are trying to make a bigger profit by laying off the regular postmen and hiring part timers to deliver the mail. Last year they had to sack 300 of those part timers for stealing or throwing away mail.......... That's economy for you! Smile

Cheers Rende. You do get some astonishing logic when accountants take over. They squeeze common sense and ethics out the back door. The losses incurred by the substandard postmen no doubt appear in a different set of books so it's still all good on paper. Everyone can see how screwed up it is except the financial wizards. :0(

What a nice shape that door contour makes. White vans indeed, we'll be having plain clothes postmen next and then where will we be? Excellent photography and conversion!

Very interesting choice of point of view, instead of just shooting the subject. Rich black andwhite tones. Expression is everything and, here, very well served by the postman's eyes, the black and white and the photograph's point of view all togheter. It takes some courage to approach people and photograph them that way.
