A tulip passed it's best before date with a fallen petal creating a window for the stamen.

I processed this in Nik software 'colour effex pro 3.0' choosing the vignette filter option so that I could, by playing around with the options, get rid of a somewhat cluttered background. I finished off in PS working with layers and masks to bring some detail back into the flower.
I did several shots of these dying tulips, I was interested in their varying stages of decay and I am enjoying experimenting with them so taking all comments on board from my last upload, I realise that less is more in some cases and I quite like the simplicity of this one.

I really appreciate all the comments and critique and thanks to all who offered their time to do mods.

Have a good week everybody

Regards
Fran (13th June.....added a little tonal contrast and uploaded another version)

The processing that you describe is all double dutch to me, Fran, but what I can say is that the result is truly excellent.
Ronnie.

I understand what you're saying Fran.

Worked well, hasn't it. I'd be pleased to have arrived at the result that you've got.
I shall be interested to see what the others think.

Bren.

Gorgeous image Fran, - have suggested a little more space around the flower in a mod, with the centre slightly brighter, - hope it works for you.

Dead flowers seem to be a popular subject, you have a good image of one here. Great detail and light.
I think I understand your process.
The bits left at bottom left and bottom right are a little intrusive. Seeing the stem and leaves looks fine, they put the head into context, give it some where to belong.
Around the bud the transition from vignette looks a little messy, maybe a softer brush with less opacity might have helped. You could have used a layer with mask (fill with black and paint with white) above the flower or the erase tool to very lightly reveal the parts you wanted to show. The layer could have been solid colour or a texture if you wanted more interest. Play with blending modes too. (if you didn't)
Photographing the flower against an interesting plain or textured /coloured background and then applying layers using blending can produced nice results too.
Difficult to critique. I find dead flowers a little morbid but many people must like them,
regards
Ian

A fine example of how a virtually dead flower can be manipulated into a very eye catching image Fran. I love the sharp stamens leading away to the soft and blurred edges of the petals.

I really like this Fran - looks good to me compared to the darker stuff you have been experimenting on.
I think Willie has done all that this needs in the mod to add a bit more contrast.

Sitting on the fence with this one, perhaps too many distractions from the focal point.
