This event is held once a year off Whitmore beach at Barry. I was determined to get there this year and I'm glad I now went.
The event took place over the weekend and looking at the weather forecast I opted for Saturday morning as it was going to be cloudy and not raining.
As I left the house the weather was cloudy and looked as if it was going to get brighter.
By the time I'd arrived at the beach ( 1 1/2 miles from home and about ten minutes) it was pouring down!![]()
When it stopped raining I went down to the waters edge and used my trusty walking stick/monopod to hold me up and steady the camera!.
The weather changed rapidly from really gloomy to gloomy to slightly brighter etc so I set the camera on aperture priority, centre weighted metering and iso 800.
I had a few trips back up the beach for shelter as it poured down several times and annoyingly the tide was going out so each journey there and back was getting longer!
I had my waterproof boots on so I went into the water a little bit. One chap waded right in with his camera and monopod and he may be my next upload.
I was surprised as to how many shots I'd taken in the end.
The scenery in the background is the West country and looks a lot closer than it is due to the use of a telephoto lens.

Good set. I like V2 & V3 for the 'man overboard' effect - and V4 for the spray!
Moira
An exciting set that offers a powerful explanation of what must be a most exciting event.
I like V1 best for the impression that the boat is heading straight at you - there is virtually eye contact!
Fine description too, Ken.
Regards
Bill
Looks like it was fun apart from the changable weather situation a good set of action shots

Awesome set of images Ken and each one worthy of it's own upload, you can feel the action and speed of these boats, excellent set!

Excellent set and great description, Ken. v1 the best for me. One boat sharp and coming straight at you with purpose, and the two sprayed covered ones behind. Top action stuff and well balanced composition.
Dave
