I found this location and took a photo with a very similar composition about 3 years ago (page 1 in my PF). Recently a client wanted to buy it as an A2 limited edition print but there was no way the image was going to print at that size so I declined to sell him it and made it my mission to go back and redo the image and this time do the view, which for me is one of the best in the lakes, justice.
I've been keeping an eye on the forecast for weeks and finally got the break I needed yesterday. After making the 100 mile drive and sitting in the same spot for almost 3 hours I finally came up with this. Just hope I've done it justice and the client likes it now!?

Top shot, V2 looks good to me with the touch more luminance. Chaz.
How well worth the wait, Dennis. This view across Buttermere to Fleetwith Pike is excellent, from the stones under water in f/g., the interesting f/g boulders to the distant sunlit fellsides so beautifully mirrored. A truly lovely composition, so well captured.

Gorgeous view, I think I'd have gone for a little more f/g and a little less sky, seeing as how you can see so much of it in the reflection anyway...! Just a centimetre of so, to give that bottom left rock a little more breathing room. I'd day be careful about V2 - I agree it looks more vivid, more alive, but it's a physical truth of the world around us that any reflection, especially in a lake such as this, absorbs some of the light/luminance from the sky, and so the reflection in V2 looks, to me, a little over-bright, maybe even brighter than the sky, which is reverse of the truth. I'm judging this based on the clouds, and the ability to see texture in the clouds just above the mountain line but not in their reflection just above the two rocks on the right.
Just a thought, the extra punch in the hills and rocks seems fair, but the extra brightening of the water reflection doesn't quite seem right to me...
No doubt your ciient will love it though, which is 100% ultimately the most important thing...

Hi mate. Totally agree that the foreground rock could do with a bit more space but if I angled the camera down or moved back it meant the bank was included in the bottom right corner of the frame which looked really ugly and ruined the balance of the composition. Believe me I tried everything ( I had 3 hours!) but this was the best compromise I could come up with 
With regards to the balance of the sky compared to the reflection, I checked the brightest areas on the histogram in Capture One and they're almost identical. The loss of detail in the reflected clouds is caused by the use of a 5 second exposure to gently soften some ripples from a very slight breeze that was blowing. Nothings blown out so I could pull the reflections back a bit but I worry that if I do the reflections of the fells will look too dark. It's not perfect (what image is?) but I'm happy that it's a fair compromise, or the best I can do anyway
Always useful to know the background to the shot - of course you have to make do with what is there - now you mention it, you can see the whisperings of some weed or such on the right hand side - if only we could move the earth around as we wish!!! In that case, I can't fault this as a compromise! It's a stunning shot and well composed, I guess the only way to get that space would be to find the lake at a different water-height, but it's not worth it - this shot does work solidly as it is, just wondered if there was room for a little more in there.
The 5 seconds exposure explains the detail loss, and you're probably right to worry that you'd lose the punch of the fells - unless you selectively held the sky reflection but not the mountainside, but that's a lot of effort for not much difference, was interested to know more about the detail loss - ND6 I'm guessing?
Nothing bad to say about it then Den, should have known you'd have got the best possible approach after 3 hours! Good effort on your patience!

Hi James. thanks for popping back. 3 filters used;
- Polarizer, backed right off but just gave the reflections on the water a bit more definition.
- Lee 3 Stop ND to slow the exposure and just make sure the ripples caused by a very slight breeze were smoothed out.
- 2 stop Lee hard grad. to hold back the sky
Exposure; ISO 100, F16 & 5 secs
