East Meon, Hampshire by frenchie44

East Meon, Hampshire

I had knocked the pixel count down to 1200X800, the full 18mp shot is only blurred on the branch ends, the main trunk is pin sharp, there was quite a wind up on the Hampshire Downs, so I think that is the effect cause.

Quote: Not sure that the colour adds to this image Frenchie - rather I think the patch on the lower left distracts the eye. Perhaps this would be improved with a straight mono conversion? The composition is good.

Hi
the patch i believe that you mention is a reflection of a cloud, it is part of the picture, to have one of the clouds without a reflection would look a bit off! although this shot was taken about 10 days ago it is one of the most wanted shorts of mine, i have have over 60 people wanting A4+ copies for framing. i sent 8 to Australia within two days of taking the shot.
Still it was nice of you to comment.

Quote: Pretty cool edit, almost IR , great work Smile

it is infrared, using 720nm filter, I spent over 12 hours making this new action that does away with the red to blue swap

Hi
this was taken in the summer on a nice hot day, infrared does not work well in cold sunless weather.

Quote: Can't agree with all those guys who have looked and not bothered their bums to vote,.The IR works extremely well on a fine image.
Cheers
Alan

Thankyou, i was not expecting this to come out as good as it did, i am very pleased with it, i ave changed from a B+W 092 filter to a 680nm filter, i had to make new PS actions to suit it.

Quote: Nice composition and treatement.
How did you apply the infrared effect? I know there is quite few examples on the web though yours in particular, seems quite effective.

Well done and cerainly gets my vote.

i have made my own actions, one is the straight swap of red & blue, next is similar bur with a little green put in the swap. then i have my own fake HDR version, i make 2 images -2 &+2 stps blended in after the above swap is done. the latest is this soft, dreamy action i made on sunday morning.

BISHOPS PALACE

Quote: As you know I love your infrared work as it is so different. I like this even more because of a few reasons. Firstly I like the offset angle of the lake, secondly the reflections in the water, thirdly the sky, and lastly the title says to me that there is a building and here it is not immediately obvious which make you "look" at the image and then you discover it just poking out of the trees.

Excellent shot.

Just one very tiny little thing - I think the cropped tall tree on the right should be cropped altogether to give the RHS a tidier and more complete feel. Hope that makes sense.

MOTTISFONT ABBEY GARDENS

thankyou all for your votes and comments, i am really pleased that you like this pic, it was such a lovely day and the IR was strong, but there was no foliage on the trees to show the IR effect off. so i concentrated on the trees and scenes that had shape & form, it paid off!

Quote: Really good IR shot - I am struggling with 15 - 20 sec exposures and an R72 filter. Where did you get IR Fuji?

A.

Go to your local Fuji dealer, he will take the order, not available over the counter, there will be a fax to the shop for you to sign, to say that you will only use it for legal use, then the camera arrives a few days later. lovely camera, shoot at normal speeds, mine has never been off the 28mm end of the lens. Fuji told me that you cannjot use it for landscapes as it is not suitable??? i use a 093 filter, completly opaque.

thankyou for your comments, this is an infra red shot that i have processed as an HDR picture, it improves the overall contrast. i am always looking for interesting skies and this is the most unusual sky i have seen for ages, almost like a sheet of silk.

Thankyou for the comments.
the sky was really unusual, not so pronounced as this, the HDR processing has bought out the texture. this pic looks just as good in B&W.

I am experimenting with HDR on Infra red shots, so i am going through all that i have taken this year and if suitable processing any pic so that i have 3 versions of it, roughly 2 stops under, 2 stops over & normal, combining them. it take ages but its worth it.
