I haven't a clue what they were at, but they reminded me of baby elephants holding their mother's tails in a circus parade.
Some lensbaby, tilt/shift effect has been added in PS, just to add to the weirdness of it all...

First thought - horizontal mountaineering?
But then I thought of the WW1 images of blinded soldiers leading each other.
Strange image. I like that acid green, it's weird in its own right.
