The Tyne Riverside Country Park runs from our town to Tyneside, and it's a precious asset. Miles of safe, attractive paths that are wheelchair, buggy and bicyle-friendly.
We went down looking for typical autumnal shots for future town calendars. The 2013 calendar is selling well for the Community Partnership, we want to keep it up as a regular publication, people appreciate something local. But it's a year-round project, we need to be on the look-out for seasonal images to keep in stock.
There was an angling competition in progress, ninety fishermen lined up along the river bank, and we thought they would make an unusual picture. But they were tucked away in hollows. The bank is steep, overgrown and wiggly – there was no way we could get a picture without waders (and a Lifeguard on duty... )
So we looked for something else, and this is one of my results... It's a difficult place to photograph, particularly at this time of year, being very low in a steep-sided valley - the sun only reaches the riverside for an hour or so each day. This really is about how people use and enjoy the amenity, as well as the landscape itself.
Thanks for looking,
Moira

A wonderful late Autumn image Moira. For those who still regard the North as being grim, they clearly need to go to Specsavers.

....I thought you liked 'wiggly'? Grin

The overcast lighting gives some lovely tones, Moira, and the extra saturation makes the Autumnal colours glow against the slightly blueish shade.

As a walker, that just makes me want to get out there! it's an area we haven't explored much. A simple subject matter but you've given it a very individual and appealing feel, I'm really enjoying it.

Maggie, you can walk along the Tyne from Prudhoe to the Newcastle and Gateshead Quays, with occasional crossings from one side of the river to the other, and excellent refreshment breaks available along the route! (Recommendations for the Keel Man at Newburn...)
This one was taken at midday, before the sun had actually come up. There's another to come tomorrow from an hour or so later.
Thanks everyone.

Fabulous shot of a wonderful place, Moira. I think it is a must and so good a feeling to be amazed at what nature offers us. I can imagine how beautiful it is through your work, it's really amazing and fills me with joy.

The yellow leaves seem to make their own light and lift the image beautifully Moira. So many of us enjoy a walk in the woods when the colours are out.

It's a very good autumn scene. But it looks pretty blue and cold on my (calibrated) monitor. I tried warming it in RAW edit by pushing the WB up +25 which makes quite a difference. I also pushed the mid-range whites a little. It makes it look a lot warmer and slightly brighter and vibrant. If you want to allow mods I can upload it.

Well, zero degrees and freezing fog have something to do with that. I'm not sure why November mist should look warm and bright? I'm actually more interested in conveying what I experience than in creating pretty pictures.
This has been tweaked quite a bit (the Colour Temperature of the original is 5200, I used Colour Efex Pro 3 plus standard PS to enhance the yellow foliage and tone down the greens). I wouldn't want it pushed further.
I enable Mods when, for example, an abstract will lend itself to a variety of crops, but rarely otherwise.

A lovely scene and brilliant colours, lucky you to have it to enjoy, we need to fight to save this sort of thing, we have lots of battles down South to stop Councils selling off land, even school playing fields are not safe here! nice one like it, regards Leon.GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

A wonderful and colourful autumnal shot Moira. Like how the trees either side, together with the leaves on the ground and overhanging leaves frame the two walkers Smile

It is a beautiful scene Moira, perfect framing for the couple walking. Incredible colour. Very good perspective/vanishing point image. Should be very appealing for use on a calender.

Despite all that wonderful autumnal colour, I feel a desire to see this in mono.
