Paeonia of Rhodes (Paeonia clusii-ssp.rhodia) is a native species on Rhodes and it grows within the pine forest of the island. Its bloom has 5 petals which surrounds many yellow stamens. Its height is 50 to 60cm and the color of its bloom is white. Another characteristic of this fabulous plant is the cinnamon fragrance that it release which attract many insects.
The paeony is named after Paeon (also spelled Paean), a student of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. Asclepius became jealous of his pupil; Zeus saved Paeon from the wrath of Asclepius by turning him into the peony flower.
