A male adonis blue butterfly perched on a seedhead in the valley at the bottom of the masts field at Prestbury Hill nature reserve near Cheltenham. This was the first time I'd seen this rare blue butterfly on this site which is managed by Butterfly Conservation, and I must have counted about 8 different individuals on my visit.

F/5.6 and 300mm. nicely separates the subject from the b/g, Ed, and you have captured it so crisply and under such lovely light.

Well captured, Ed, good to see the underwing with sufficient 'top side' showing.

This is particularly good, Ed as the contrast between the over and under wing is shown so clearly. Not often we see that, so well done for getting the pov and timing spot on.

Just the way I like them against a clear defocused b/g.
Always good to capture a new variety of the species.
