Just had a brilliant 4 days in Spain with my mate Pete Withers where we visited two sites and managed 40 species, of which 4 were lifers for me including this amazing beauty.
We saw 4 of these incredible butterflies and this one was photographed in my favourite meadow in the mountains just outside Miraflores, north of Madrid. I've got an 11 day break in July booked specifically to find Apollos as that's the time when they appear in Miraflores, so it was a total surprise to find them already gliding around the meadow. I cannot wait to get back there next month!

Miraflores you said.. I will have a look next time. If you can 'see flowers' it might also be miramariposas ![]()
A stunning close up of this beautiful butterfly, you've captured its colours and wing markings in such intricate detail.
