One of the several Great Spotted Woodpeckers (Dendrocopos major) that frequent our garden. Taken at the end of October against a background of red and green foliage.

An image of exceptional quality Sylvia, the detail, colours and clarity in the plumage are first class, and you've yet another totally natural background to die for. Who needs a groundsheet from Next or Debenhams rigged up to provide a backdrop!

If I was to offer any critique, it would be that the white wing feathers are a tad overdone - but that's just me nit picking

Thanks Adrian - it is all in a viewpoint All I can say in defence of the white wing feathers is that they did not show up as blown in the RAW editor and show plenty of detail on my monitors, but I appreciate that displays vary. Critique is always welcomed though
