I've not been to Orford Ness but I guess you wanted to convey the sense of isolation of the place. I think you can still do that Mike without having the structures at quite such a distance. The thing is that the foreground is very featureless. I know it's part of the scenery there but if you crop some off (see mod) you make more of a feature of the pagodas.

You have the makings of some interesting light in the sky area. In my mod I tried to help it along by using the dodge tool to lighten some of the cloud formations to the right of the pic.

A good idea and great potential. Up the contrast quite a bit, burn in the top left sky and crop the bottom to increase the moody feeling and you have an improvement on a good idea.
