Peterborough is a fine city built on the edge of the fens and has had numerous name changes throughout history.
Settled by the Romans who named the town Durobrivae. The anglo saxons then called it Medehamstede and thenon the arrival of the Danes, Burh. After the norman invasion it was called Burgh St Pete, then around the 12th/13th century Peterborough. From the late 1960's Peterborough expanded and is sign posted Greater Peterborough.
