I always like a picture to tell a story-this one from the mid-50s is just one of them...Anyone around then might have an idea who this is..especially listening to British radio.

Known as Radio's perfect teenager, actress and singer BARBARA LYON (1931-1995) born in Hollywood, came from a very famous show business family. Her parents were:BEN LYON & BEBE DANIELS.

They had a radio programme on BBC called 'Life with the Lyons' from 1950-1961.Ben/Bebe/Babs and brother Richard all played themselves on the show.

Her parents also had a wartime show on radio called Hi.GANG.The Lyons radio programmes(life with...) were made into 2 films (1954-1955) with the four taking part.

Babs went onto a singing career in Britain where she lived, and made 2 songs that went into the hit parade, after which she faded from sight. In 1956,seen in the picture, she married radio producer,Russell Turner, but the marriage never lasted.

She died of a cerebral hemorrhage aged 63 almost forgotten to the world.

Her father,BEN played opposite Jean Harlow in HELLS ANGELS (1930),and said to have discovered Marilyn Monroe for 20th.Century Fox.

A right royal wedding! Now I know who she is... a star of steam radio. Those were the days...

When at school in the fifties, some of our class were taken on a week's holiday in London by a couple of our teachers. One highlight of the week was being taken to see a recording of Life with the Lyons. I thought Babs was lovely. What a shame she didn't reach her three score and ten. Thanks for posting this one, Horace.
