Thanks to all of you who stopped to view my recent uploads.

Something a bit different for today. Having been envious of all the great bird pictures which are posted here I thought I would give it a try. I must say despite a credible attempt the best I could do is this Great Tit (they really donít sit still for long do they?)

The lesson in this is I now have a much greater sympathy and respect for those of you who manage to capture and publish such terrific bird images on a regular basis!!

Good natural colour in the plumage Greg. I think most of the ' bird guys ' on here would be looking for a little more detail in the white cheek piece though.
Brian.

Thank to all of you for your comments and clicks. Yes Brian, I did notice a bit of softness in the white cheek which I put down to my technique. As a first attempt at this I was reasonably happy, but clearly there is room for improvement. Unfortunately this could easily become addictive!

Hi Greg, lovely detail and pose here, re the cheeks which are not easy to get just right, they are much better than a lot I've seen on here. TIP: whatever camera you use, Canon or Nikon etc try 1 or 2 stops minus exp comp to account for the white areas. It's my view that all cameras left at default settings will in general over expose the cheeks. You can always make adjustments in the RAW file if you have gone too far,
Geoff.

Thanks Geoff. Really appreciate your help and the tip. I will give it a try next time around. Looks like it is really a matter of finding the "sweet spot" for the camera settings.

I echo Geoffs comments but even with other genre I have found underexposing when shooting in RAW is totally recoverable up to two stops -/+ in my case with PS or Canons DPP, if this was my image I would be delighted with the results, well done Greg.
