First I would like to thank Jeff, Barbara, Lilly, Ade, Paul and Phil for providing such constructive comments and suggestions on my first version of this image.
I re-shot it to - hopefully - reflect their suggestions by changing the pov slightly to include space at the top of the stair and adding a willing body for a bit more drama.
Thanks for stopping to take a look.
Greg

Excellent shot. The POV is good and the figure well placed and fitting in the scene. Suits BW too. The sky does'nt look quite right to me as the tonal range does'nt seem to fit the rest of the image ..... have you added it in post-processing. Not that it matters either way as I'm very much an advocate of the end justifying the means. Yes. I do like this.

And you have done a rather excellent job too! The crit section does work. This is a superb image that tells a story and is technically superb.

I can see the point with the sky, but hadn't noticed until I read above. Possibly a tad lighter in the sky, but not much.

Paul

It's a good urban image Greg - good choice with the figure.
I agree with DaveU - the tone of the sky is not quite matching the rest of the image though.

Thanks so much for all your comments. I really appreciate the critique and the help. I tried to darken the sky a bit in pp with a grad, but looks like I over did it a bit. Shouldn't be too hard to undo.
Cheers,
Greg

I think there is another option with this Greg. I think it may be worth trying cropping off the LH side of the image - down the line of the post on the top of the underpass. I don't think you need that area in the image because the human element is strong.
And reduce the tone in that sky Smile

Regards
Brian.

Spot on Greg, a real gritty urban image without a contrived feel to it, incidentally that sky imho gives a surreal effect which seems to work somehow, a real gem well done.

Wow, good call Brian. Loaded as a variant (2). I think it really cleans up the composition. Good eye!!!!

V2 looks so much better to me Greg - I'm probably biased though. Smile

really like this set (and there has been a big improvement with respect to the first upload!).
considering only the comp V2 is better (use of the diagonal to make the eye going up and down) but...
I like better V1 since it gives the sense of a choice we have to make.
and the guy is about to make it

great work
francesco

Thanks for the very helpful and thought provoking comments. This has been an interesting image for me to work on and to see the change in composition based on Brian's suggestion and then to realise the impact on context as suggested by Francesco. Invaluable input!!!!!

Watcha Greg,
excellent stuff in your PF, love this, I don't usually like people pics; however, this figure has certainly enhanced this pic.
best

Yeah I Really like this shot...it has a really "Gritty Feel" to it...the guy at the bottom of the steps adds even more impact to the over all feel...
on the down side, I have to agree with DaveU, the sky looks completely different from the rest of the image, has not got the same "gritty feel" to it...it is too "clean"...too "smooth"... but it still gets an...Excelento...!!! from me... Smile
