A stunning image of my favourite, but extremely illusive garden visitor.

A nice one gary. Your set up is beginning to pay off.

Again, I assume you used a tripod for this speed and focal length. I wonder about the -2/3, as it has done what is intended, underexposed the shot. Perhaps you were worried about blowing the whites?

You can set up the camera to use exposure bracketing, which will take three shots at -1/3, 0, and +1/3 depending on how you set it up. Its worth reading up on this in the manual.

If the exposure is set to a zero compensation, the shot does look brighter, - and even more important, that eye comes alive with a nice catchlight. I understand the reasoning behind being cautious and underexposing a little, as you can extract more detail; from an underexposed shot than one that over.

Take a look at your histogram using the levels adjustment. You will see the data all bunched up in the middle. Drag the end sliders inwards to just touch the graph and see the difference. something you can do easily with all your shots.

The bunched effect is partly caused by the underexposure compensation ( the right side of the graph). but the left is most likely due to the light at the time.

In the mod I suggest taking a look at how you might place the bird off centre. I did it by adding canvas, but you can do it in the camera if you select a SINGLE focus point thats off centre, and compose the shot as you shoot.

regards

Willie

Beautifully captured Rabin. Is it the same one as a few days before? Looks thiner.. Ah.. I heard that people do all sort of the things to attract birds... mix up bird food with fat and put it on the branch of the tree is one of them, I don't think that the tree like it though...Grin

It's great how you captured the inquisitive look on its face especially since they can be quick flying off.
