It's amazing what you come across sometimes.
During a pre-dawn exploration of Hahei I stumbled across a composition I instantly recognised from the Lee adverts. I have no intention of trying to claim this for my own as the incredibly talented David Noton has all the rights for this shot and besides, his is by far and a way better!! It's just my take on this fabulous composition he discovered.
Thanks for looking
Dan

somewhere I'd love to see and photograph myself...instantly recognisable but every photographer who went here would do the same. Cracking photo ![]()
Hi Dan
I wasn't familiar with David Noton's version but have just checked it out. He was certainly blessed with a better sky but you've done a great job here given the conditions!
Mike
Thanks everyone.
I knew I had to get the pre-dawn glow in due to the lack of sky and I hope that's what sets it apart. It was incredibly difficult to expose given the range of light and I must have taken at least 5-10 frames until I was happy.
It's bizzare as well just how much private land there is in this region of NZ, I struggled to get any access to the cliffs despite the huge possibilities I could see in the distance.............frustrating!
Dan
Nobody owns this but you! Yes I also get frustrated at private land like this. Very thoughtfully composed.
Patrick
It's very unclear until you get there that the land is private. I had mapped the area out on google earth and had seen a set of caves and sea stack further around the coastline but when I drove there I came across gated driveways and didn't feel comfortable, as a tourist, asking people if I could go on their land!!
A shame but all the same it is a truly beautiful area...........my retirement dream!!
