After yesterdays somewhat poorly recieved colour version of this shot I thought I'd commit EPZ suicide and upload the mono version!!

Thoughts appreciated as always.

I didn't see yesterday's but I like the tones in this. Perhaps one thing that is stopping it getting more votes is the composition. I feel it needs cropping tighter at top and right, reducing the amount of sky and making the steps dominate the foreground.

Looks beautifully serene. Ian makes some valid points.

Thanks Ian and shaks. As suggested I have uploaded a cropped variant.

I think v2 works better, I feel as if I am stood at the top of the steps. Smile

just to be awkward I would like to see a crop about halfway between your original and the v2 crop (which I think brings the horizon too close to the top of the frame).

I also think that the way the sky fades from bright to dark is an important part of the image and helps balance the composition with the foreground (this is lost in v2).

This does work well in mono Dan.

Think this works well in Mono - well captured and converted.

Interestingly, I swear both the suggested crops take out the slightly lighter band in the sea running up the right of the image, creating an illusion of boosting the contrast a bit.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Hi Dan. I like both colour and mono versions and I think your original crop was nicely composed...but v3 works for me too.

This is a great location. I might have a mooch around myself, if I get a chance.

Steve.

PS -- If I get 26 votes on anything, I think I've done well...but your standards are obviously higher than mine! Smile

Think it also works well in both colour and mono, version 2 for me but they all stand up on their own.

Wonderful shot. All the variants work, but I'll go for V2, the steps work better for me in that one. But let's face it, they all work...
