Works well in mono - was the colour variant exhibiting traces of an incorrectly placed filter though? Top left hand corner looks like the blue sky fades in a diagonal shape that looks a bit unnatural. Was that a misplaced graduated filter maybe?

Regardless of that I think the end result looks wonderful and you still get my vote for the excellent composition and the lines formed by the tree, almost mirroring the landscape in the background.

No Alistair, the grad was placed ok. Its the vignetting slider along with playing with the blue slider in the BW conversion on Lighroom that has produced the effect. I agree its probably overdone!

Paul, I disagree that the effect is overdone. I think it all enhances the very complex composition. I think it is a mono masterpiece. ....Peter

Thanks for the explanation. I think overdone isn't the appropriate word here, my comment in fact was that it looked a BIT unnatural to me at first glance. Had to emphasise the BIT part maybe. Regardless of what caused it, I think the mono conversion and the end result are still superb.
